Looking to join like-minded people in the ultimate off-road adventure in New Zealand? Then consider attending one of the many off-road events being held this year. Off-roading allows enthusiasts to get together and try out some of the best tracks New Zealand has to offer. Whether for a competition or just for fun, it is something that anyone who loves a chance to go off-roading to take part in. Here are some of the most adventurous events not to be missed this year.
6-7th – Mainland Superwinch Challenge, Round 2 – The first round of Mainland Superwinch was held during the first weekend in June, but entries are open for further rounds. With lots of action being seen in the first round, the second and further rounds promise to be another lively event where 4WD lovers from all over spend the weekend exploring New Zealand’s best courses. 28-29th – Offllimits 4WD Ice Buster – Held at the Waiouru Army training grounds, the Offlimits 4WD Ice Buster is a winter off-road event not to be missed. Take a guided tour under the North Island’s largest mountain going over unique terrain that covers the training grounds. Bookings must be made in advance, and the fee covers weekend accommodation.
6-7th – Mainland Superwinch Challenge, Round 3 – The third round of the Mainland Superwinch Challenge will be hosted by the 4x4 Club in Christchurch. Find out more on their Facebook page or e-mail [email protected].
14-15th – Mainland Superwinch Challenge, Round 4 – Round 4 of the Mainland Superwinch will be in Nelson and hosted but the Nelson 4WD Club. Anyone wanting to take part can e-mail [email protected] or contact Scotty Newport at the Nelson 4WD Club on 02 7499 7098.
15-16th – Off Road Racing South Island Championship – The Off-Road Association of New Zealand (ORANZ) continue their annual championship series with this third round, hosted by the Otago Off-Road Racing Club. Get ready for some mud and dirt in this gritty run of short and enduro courses. Find out more on the ORANZ official site.
12-13th – Mainland Superwinch Challenge, Round 5 – This year’s Mainland Superwinch Challenge comes to an end at Dunedin and is sure to be a worthy final round. E-mail [email protected] for an entry form to get in on the action or check out their Facebook page for more information.
20th-21st – Off Road Racing Championship, Final – The final of the Off Road Racing Championship is always a memorable one and something not to be missed, even if just spectating. This years final is at West Melton and hosted by the Canterbury Off-Road Racing Club. See www.oranz.co.nz for more information on this adrenaline-filled event.
24th-25th – Manukau Winch Challenge – All MC class vehicles are welcomed to take part in the Manukau Winch Challenge in stages taking place during Saturday and Saturday night and half the day Sunday. The three classes to get involved with are the Challenge, Outlaw or Club Class. Visit www.manukau4wd.org.nz/ to get involved.
