Our Opportunity

Our team is expanding further and we are looking for an experienced designer to join our award-winning team to help us stay at the top of our segment in the automotive accessory market. Our designers have a key role to play in helping Yakima to meet our strategic goals. As part of Yakima's engineering team you will be responsible for all aspects of design and development of products, through the whole product life cycle.

This position includes a variety activities as well as CAD work, it requires a degree of hands-on work in prototype building and testing using our in-house workshop. Tasks during travel to our manufacturing plant (overseas) may include assisting Yakima's on-site engineering team, tool trials, supplier visits, test and validation. Specifically, you would be responsible for:

  • Engage in all stages of our New Product Development process including product planning, concept development, and detailed product design, testing and manufacturing implementation.
  • Assist with maintaining, improving, and expanding our product documentation including CAD models, drawings, DFMEA's, FEA and BOMs.
  • Undertake special projects to research and establish new and improved materials or processes relating to our products, design process, and manufacturing.

To be successful in this position you will have the following:

  • Degree qualified (Mechanical Engineering) or proven relevant experience
  • 3+ years' experience with consumer product design with a broad exposure to design and manufacturing
  • Comprehensive understanding of the product planning and product development process
  • Experience in bringing new consumer products from concept through to finished product
  • Advanced 3D CAD skills (Solidworks, PDM)
  • Experience working in a fast paced, multi-tasking and dynamic environment with a high level of ambiguity
  • Ability to exercise sound and mature judgement both in a technical and a wider business sense
  • Detail oriented and highly organised
  • Able to communicate well and to work with a wide range of people of different backgrounds and cultures in a global collaborative environment
  • Ability to work outside of traditional position description
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally (on average twice annually)
